Car Insurance Just For WomenForum - Questions & AnswersWhy do men pay more for car insurance than women?Question: This fact is surely sexism based on pure stereotypes rather than relevant information such as the driver's history. Doesn't this just portray the stereotype that men are more irresponsible or 'risk takers' when it comes to driving? Why not base car insurance on ethnicity? thanks for the answers everyone. But the question is more relevant to stereotypes based on statistics: is this fair? Obviously it this were to happen based on one's ethnicity, then everyone would complain about it, and why shouldn't they? It's racism: and this seems sexism to me. Input?Answer: I see your point in that. It would be no different to base car insurance on ethnicity based on statistics. What are factors in the amount we pay for insurance is personal history of course, age, grades (if in school), whether or not a person has bad credit, along with many other things. Most men are too macho anyways to actually believe women are better drivers. 8 years ago, an insurance agent told me that women get in 70% less accidents than men do. In my opinion this doesn't mean women are "better" drivers, but we are definately safer on average. We aren't usually cocky, aggressive, and arrogant behind the wheel like men are. It's these aggressive types who get in the most accidents ruining it for all men. ![]() If we really have "Gender Equality", why should us guys have to pay more for Car Insurance than women?Question: Could you imagine if it were the other way around, and women had to pay higher rates than men? There'd probably be legislation in Congress to stop it as we speak!!! I'm comparing auto quotes online, and it's ridiculous how much a 21 year old guy (me) has to pay just for my demographics. @Colby: But Obama, our first Female president, is about to change that...Answer: Statistically speaking, young men cause far more accidents than young women. It really rips off the young guys who drive well, though, which I why I think a case-by-case insurance policy would be better. ![]() Diamond car insurance for women?!?Question: What is with that advert "Diamond Car Insurance for Women"? Women are meant to be the safest drivers. According to statistics, the only reason people think women are safer drivers is because they make a claim on their boyfriends/husbands car insurance when they have an accident. I am most certainly not a sexist male and I am all for equality but I just think it's unfair to have a car insurance just for women and try to make out like men are terrible drivers. I mean imagine the uproar if there were a car insurance company JUST for men (before the diamond insurance was available) ? What are your views on this people?Answer: Women have just as many claims as men The difference is most Women's claims are for low speed 'dings' with no one else involved other than an occasional gate post. Most men's claims involve a third party and a major claim, So get a higher risk element to their premiums. ![]() Men pay more for life and car insurance but women should not have to pay more for health insurance?Question: http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1202434670357&Advocates_Say_Being_a_Woman_Is_Not_a_PreExisting_Condition Isn't this is a rather selective campaign for equality? . Men pay higher premiums than women for life insurance and car insurance, but feminists don't care about that. Feminists do care about insurance companies charging women higher health insurance premiums though. So they want to ban it. Which means men pay higher premiums to make up the difference. In the end, this selective equality just amounts to one more government-enforced subsidization by men of women. Does it not? Sasafras77, I refer you to the answer of Clockwork Apple. Yes, insurance companies charge men more for car insurance based on various risk factors and cost predictions. Which is exactly how they calculate health insurance premiums. Women are charged more because they are more likely to use health services and more likely to use them often and extensively. So why should women not pay market rates for health insurance like men pay market rates for car insurance? Dark Eyes, Are you really arguing that men do not pay more for car insurance below a certain age? Gender is absolutely a factor, just as it is for life insurance. As for having the government review the criteria used by health insurance companies, why not also have a review of life insurance and car insurance premiums? Oh, that's right. I remember now. It's not a "women's issue."Answer: Women utilize health services more than men. They pay more. Men under the age of 25 get in the most car accidents and are the most reckless in those cars. They pay more. Men are more prone to disease and fatal health risks than women and are less likely to go to the doctors. They pay more. It's risk-assessment on the part of the insurers and it sounds about right to me. I've always hated this "argument" as used by both feminists and our opponents. This has to do with business optimization for insurance companies NOT "equality." Atleast it shouldn't. It's statistics. That's it. ![]() |
