Caught driving alone with G1 by police, what is my insurance going to be?

Question: Ok Il keep this short and straight to the point. I live in Ontario - I have a G1 license - Snuck parent's car out at 1 am, picked up friend, drove around, cop pulled me over (how unlucky) -Got charged with a) Driving without a user with 4 years or more driving experience, including driving past 12 am with another person, and b) Refusing to show I.D - I know im an idiot about doing what I did. The reason why I didn't show I.D is well, its a REALLY long and complicated story, to summarize it, I wasn't thinking straight, I was scared sh!tless. - I do not know how long License will be suspended, I am 99 percent sure it will be suspended at LEAST 30 days. (I have to call them) - My dad talked to an insurance agent, and this is what they thought. - They said that I will not be able to drive anyone's car except for my own once I purchase one with having a G2 liscense. - My insurance will be HIGHLY increased for the next 3 years, DOUBLED in price. Around 10k so my dad sais. My question is, how the hell can this happen? Is this true? REMEMBER this is not fact, just what someone told my dad. I am scared because I am afraid I will not be able to put my insurance under my parent's name anymore. Will I still be able to? I do NOT want my insurance to be doubled for the next 3 years. PLEASE inform me of any information you can spare, tell me what are the possibilities etc. I don't understand.. I thought when you get caught with G1 alone you get a fine, license suspended, and that's it. Nothing this extreme.

Answer: Your insurance is INVALID when your license is suspended. Your insurance rates are determined by your insurance company, not by the court. You just proved yourself a high risk driver. That justifies higher premiums.

Insuring a G1 Driver (ONTARIO, CANADA) HELP!!!!?

Question: THIS APPLY'S TO DRIVERS IN ONTARIO, CANADA!!!!! Hello. I'm a 19 year old male who lives in Ontario, Canada, who's looking at buying a used first car. I currently have my G1 drivers license, and I can take my G2 anytime, but what I want to do is buy a car and use MY OWN car for my G2 test. Now, I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to buying used cars and how insurance works for G1 drivers, so please enlighten me on the subject. I have taken and passed Driver's Ed. and I currently have my G1, but I can take my G2 anytime. If I were to buy this car, would I have to pay for insurance right now as a G1 driver, or like...what happens there? I want to be able to drive it even though I only have my G1 (and yes I realize I'd have to drive with someone else), so what do I have to do in order to get this car on the road legally, with me holding a G1 license??? Would I have to put the insurance under someone else's name or...what happens??? Do I pay insurance at all or...??? I need to know ASAP!! Thanks!!

Answer: Since you have a G1 (that means written test only), you are not required to have insurance because you are not allowed to drive alone and must always have a fully licensed & insured driver riding along with you. This is why you don't need insurance. If you want to have your own car, I would recommend you put it in someone else's name and have them insure it. If you try to insure a car under your name, it will cost you an arm and a leg - don't bother. =) Are you ready for your road test?
