Need insurance for G1 License - Ontario?

Question: do u need insurance to drive when u attain ur G1 in ontario? i just got mine today.. and im not sure if i can drive right away or if first i gotta get insurance to drive with my family/ rents.. ne idea? thx guyss =)

Answer: if you have a G1 which is a begginers you don't need insurance to drive your parents car their insurance will cover you.

Can i transfer a Ontario G1 license to a Alberta license equivalent to this?

Question: I have had my Ontario G1 license since January 15th 2010. so a bit over a year and i am aware i am able to get my g2 but I am waiting to do a drivers course for insurance purposes. I am waiting till i get a job to take the course and I will be taking the course when I move to Alberta this summer. If i take a drivers course out in alberta can i then follow up and get a class 5 license immediately and be able to drive on my own? Can i make my Ontario G1 a Alberta class 5 (probationary) as soon as i get there and still have all my drivers experience of over a year? help please.

Answer: Hello Patrick, People who have recently moved into Alberta may use a valid operator’s licence from outside of Alberta for the first three months of their residency. You must apply for your Alberta operator’s licence and surrender your old licence within that three-month period. You should be able to exchange your G1 level for an equivalent class. Not sure if you will be required to take the knowledge test again or whether they will transfer your 1-year experience towards the new license. You would need to clarify that with their examination centre when you do it. The rest will depend on what they tell you - either you'll have to wait, or - hopefully, you'll be done with your driving school and will just take the road test, to be able to get the license.
