Ontario Car Insurance G1

In Ontario, is it free on all car insurances for girls with their G1?

Question: My dad isn't sure if it would cost him money on his car insurance if I was to be put on it. But my other friends, who are also girls, were free on their parents car insurance, only while they had their G1. I tried looking online to see if for all car insurance it was free for girls with their G1, but I couldnt find anything that would help. I just want to be put on his car insurance so that I can learn how to drive! Thank you.

Answer: I can tell you with certainty that there is no such rule. No 'girls get in free' type of thing. But adding a G1 driver on a family policy is pretty cheap unless they have a criminal history or some such. You CAN get a discount with most insurance companies if you are an honor-roll student and can show them a report card to prove it.

Question: Im 16 and just got my g1. Do i need insurance to drive my parents car with a parent in the car? And if i do how much will that cost? I heard g1's are covered but dont want to take a chance without knowing.

Answer: Hello Amber, You are better to call the insurance company and add yourself as an occasional driver with G1 to your parents' plan. It will definitely be cheaper than purchasing a separate plan for you. Hope this helps!
